Please help our students become global citizens! As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is critical for young people to develop cultural awareness and cultivate global perspectives. To experience a new culture and a biodiversity hotspot firsthand is a formative educational opportunity that will provide our students with new perspectives and an understanding of the need for conservation of productive ecosystems.
We are science teachers at Ithaca High School, planning an exciting trip to Costa Rica! For nine days next February, our students will explore vastly different ecosystems within one country. We will visit community managed reserves, nongovernmental science organizations, and national parks, delving deeply into relevant ecological and conservation topics.
The price of this trip is approximately $2,300 per student, which is prohibitively expensive for many families with whom we work. We however, consider this experience one that all interested students should have the opportunity to be part of, regardless of finances. To make this a reality for our students, we want to offer partial scholarships ranging from $300-1,200 each to those in need of financial assistance. While our students have been working hard to raise funds that will help defray the costs equally, we hope to raise the necessary scholarship money through online crowdfunding. Any additional donations we receive during our campaign will be evenly dispersed among the entire group.
Please consider donating to our cause. Even a donation of $5 helps and would be greatly appreciated! We also invite you to spread the word about our campaign to your friends, families, and colleagues!
